Chair O Planes: A Timeless Thrill
Swing right back to the 1920’s with this vintage fairground ride
The thrill ride of their time, our picturesque Chair O Planes add a traditional excitement to modern day life with their 36 brightly coloured swinging chairs.

The Origins of Chair O Planes
Invented in 1904 by Harry Guy Traver, enabling fair-goers to experience the sensation of flying just a few short months after the Wright Bros. took their first flight.
Originating in Germany, the flying chairs first became popular on British Fairgrounds in the 1920s. Unfortunately, many of these swing rides were destroyed during the war, leaving very few original examples remaining.
Restoration and Revival
Horton’s acquired their Chair O Planes ride in the 1990’s, with its traditional decoration and 1000’s of light bulbs. When the 36 chairs that descend from its spinning frame “swing out” as the speed increases, this ride proves again and again one of our most popular and exciting for any celebration.
